About Me
I have always been a GEEK.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve had an insatiable curiosity for finding out how things work. My parents tell me that, as a young child, I would take apart my toys to see how and why they operated as they did. (Unfortunately, I could not put them back together, though, so I may have reengineered some of my sister's toys during my explorations.)
My family got its first PC when I was in 4th grade. I was amazed! I wanted to learn everything there was to know about how to use it and what made it work. (I have many memories of my being warned by first my mother – and then my father -- that this was NOT a toy to be taken apart.) I eventually learned to put things back as I found them and moved on to more complex problem-solving.
Fortunately, while I’m quite comfortable speaking computerese, I’m happy to say I don’t intimidate folks when I do. Through the years, I worked hard to acquire great “people skills.” It paid off. I am extremely patient with my customers and clients when I explain complicated technological issues to them without "speaking geek." (I’m grateful to be in a field where I can use both sets of skills.)
I have worked for Microsoft for eleven years in a variety of positions. From facilitating training to installing hardware to troubleshooting software, I have to say it’s fun. During that time, I even worked in philanthropic outreach of Microsoft for six years.
